Tianjin University has introduced China's inaugural undergraduate major in brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, a significant development aimed at cultivating specialized talent in the burgeoning field that merges neuroscience and computing. Approved by the Ministry of Education, this program, slated to welcome its first students in fall 2026 via the School of Future Technology, will offer a hybrid curriculum integrating engineering and medical education. It will emphasize a project-based approach to develop comprehensive skills in BCI devices, chips, algorithms, and system applications, aligning with the technology's potential in healthcare, rehabilitation, and artificial intelligence. This initiative builds upon Tianjin University's prior BCI exploration, including a BCI program direction launched in fall 2024.
