China seeks volunteers for bed-rest study simulating spaceflight conditions 07.05.2026

China is seeking volunteers for the Earth Star-3 bed-rest study in Beijing, a project initiated by the China Astronaut Research and Training Center to simulate microgravity's effects on the human body for long-duration spaceflight research. Participants will be compensated up to 70,000 yuan ($10,300) and will spend 15 to 30 days, not exceeding 60 days total, confined to a bed in a six-degree head-down or head-up position for all activities, including sleeping and medical tests. One group will engage in daily workouts as a countermeasure. The study aims to investigate impacts on cardiovascular function, bone density, and muscle loss, building on previous bed-rest experiments conducted by the center.
