China, Sweden agree to strengthen cooperation, uphold multilateralism 18h ago

On July 4, 2026, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard in Stockholm to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and upholding multilateralism. Wang emphasized that China and Sweden should maintain mutual respect and seek common ground while managing differences. He highlighted that over 10,000 Swedish companies currently trade with China and encouraged further investment in China's vast market. Stenergard reaffirmed Sweden's commitment to the one-China principle and expressed a desire to expand collaboration in sectors like artificial intelligence, green transition, and scientific innovation. Both leaders agreed to safeguard the international order based on international law and the United Nations. They also discussed utilizing existing bilateral mechanisms to address global challenges, including climate change, while promoting increased academic and cultural exchanges to foster long-term friendship and stability.
