Chinook crash victims’ families urge Burnham to order fresh review into tragedy 26.07.2026

The families of those killed in the 1994 RAF Chinook crash are appealing to new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to launch an independent review into the disaster, which claimed 29 lives. The crash occurred on 2 June 1994 when a Chinook HC-2 helicopter crashed into Scotland’s Mull of Kintyre in foggy conditions while flying from RAF Aldergrove in Northern Ireland to Inverness. Most of the victims were British intelligence experts from MI5, the British Army, and the Royal Ulster Constabulary. Although a 2011 inquiry overturned an initial decision to blame the pilots, the cause of the crash has never been determined.
