The municipality has acknowledged a significant misinterpretation of data concerning violence against enforcement officers, with up to half of reported incidents never occurring. This error led to an inflated perception that 8 out of 10 officers faced aggression, when the actual figure is closer to 4 or 5 out of 10. The flawed statistics, which incorrectly categorized "not applicable" as "physical violence" until September 2024, formed the basis for a trial allowing enforcement officers to carry batons from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025. Despite the corrected, lower numbers, Mayor Halsema maintains the trial is still justifiable due to the remaining substantial level of incidents, though the legal foundation is now questioned. The municipality is currently evaluating whether to continue the baton program.
