Polish YouTuber Marek Hoffmann, followed by 1.3 million people, experimented with an unconventional method to heat his home and save money amidst soaring energy prices by replacing wood pellets with 133 donuts in his stove. He purchased the donuts at a discounted price, costing him 2.85 euros for approximately ten kilograms, which was 1.60 euros less than the same weight in wood pellets. Hoffmann reported the donuts burned continuously for nearly five hours, causing the oil to boil and increasing the ambient temperature from 14°C to 22°C. While the immediate savings were minimal, he calculated that a ton of donuts would cost around 285 euros compared to 445 euros for wood pellets, a significant difference given Poland's current wood pellet shortage and price increase from 332 euros in October 2025 to over 474 euros currently.
