Coast Guard seeks help after woman vanishes at sea 07.05.2026

The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking public assistance in the investigation into the disappearance of Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old Michigan woman who vanished in the Bahamas in April. Hooker's husband, Brian Hooker, reported that she fell overboard from a dinghy while they were on a night trip between Hope Town and Elbow Bay, near Great Abaco Island. He claims strong currents carried her away after she fell while holding the boat keys. Brian Hooker was arrested and questioned by Bahamian police but was later released, though he remains a suspect. The Coast Guard is also conducting a criminal investigation. Lynette's daughter has expressed doubts about her stepfather's account, citing a history of alleged domestic violence and threats. Despite initial extensive search efforts, the operation has transitioned to a recovery effort.
