Comparing India with Taiwan, South Korea on semiconductors not very accurate: Union minister Vaishnaw 08.06.2026

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that directly comparing India's semiconductor industry with established players like Taiwan and South Korea is not entirely accurate due to their decades-long development of ecosystems. He emphasized that India's significant AI adoption across various sectors, alongside its nascent semiconductor mission, positions it strongly for the future. Vaishnaw highlighted that India has already commenced commercial semiconductor production at two facilities, with two more expected soon, and the upcoming Semicon 2.0 program will prioritize chip design. He also pointed to the electronics sector's substantial growth, with production and exports increasing sixfold and eightfold respectively in the last decade, creating approximately 25 lakh jobs.
