Computer system failure and 'VIP' prices at the new dollar store in the Comodoro Hotel 07.07.2026

The inauguration of the new Caracol-Supermix store in the Comodoro Hotel, Havana, has faced serious operational problems since its opening. The establishment, jointly managed by Cimex and the Spanish company Ipsa, experienced computer system failures that prevented card payments, forcing customers to use cash due to a lack of change. The store offers high-end imported products, such as Norwegian salmon and select meats, with prices significantly higher than other foreign currency retailers. The costs of basic goods like milk and oil exceed usual standards, which has drawn criticism for its exclusive focus on a 'VIP' sector. Additionally, the venue implements strict security measures, such as the safeguarding of customers' belongings, and only accepts cards such as Mir or Union Pay due to the absence of Visa and Mastercard.
