Conservative Keiko Fujimori officially declared winner of Peru's presidential runoff election 03.07.2026

Keiko Fujimori, daughter of a former Peruvian president, has been officially declared the winner of Peru's presidential runoff election, securing 50.14% of the vote. The 51-year-old conservative politician will become Peru's ninth president in ten years, taking office later this month. This marks her fourth presidential bid amidst significant political instability and rising concerns over crime, particularly extortion by organized crime gangs, to which Fujimori has pledged a tough response. The election results, certified by Peru's top election authority on Friday, saw her narrowly defeat nationalist Congressman Roberto Sánchez, who garnered 49.87% of the vote. The U.S. State Department congratulated Fujimori, expressing a desire to deepen collaboration on security, investment, and trade.
