Controversial "informant law" comes into effect 14.07.2026

On Monday, the new duty to report, which critics call the "informant law," came into effect. The law stipulates that six specific authorities are now required to inform the Police, Säpo, or the Swedish Migration Agency about individuals they have reason to believe are in Sweden illegally. The affected authorities are the Swedish Public Employment Service, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, the Swedish Enforcement Authority, the Swedish Pensions Agency, and the Swedish Tax Agency.
