Cost of living in focus as Zanzibar House session begins 05.05.2026

The third meeting of the 11th House of Representatives in Zanzibar commenced on May 6, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on June 23, 2026. This critical budget session will center on the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s 2026/27 financial plan, which is estimated at Sh8.217 trillion, marking a 17.69 percent increase from the previous year. Legislators are expected to debate the Finance and Appropriation Bills while addressing 506 total questions. Citizens and stakeholders have urged representatives to prioritize the rising cost of living, water scarcity, and infrastructure development over personal agendas. Additionally, the House will review a 2024 government report on drug abuse, as public pressure mounts for officials to improve essential social services and agricultural investment across the island.
