Couple who took children storm chasing during typhoon spared criminal sentence 12.05.2026

South China Morning Post

A Hong Kong couple who took their children storm chasing during Super Typhoon Ragasa in 2025 have avoided a criminal conviction after agreeing to a bind-over order at Eastern Court. The case, which involved a joint charge of ill-treatment or neglect, saw the couple bound over for three years. This means they will face a HK$2,000 fine if they breach good behaviour and peace during this period and could receive harsher penalties for future child abuse offenses. The decision was made following an agreement with prosecutors to settle the case.
