National Councillor Sibel Arslan (Greens/BS) has submitted a motion demanding that all members of the National Council and the Council of States must disclose their criminal records. Arslan argues that the population has a legitimate interest in knowing whether elected representatives, who decide on the legal order, have themselves violated current law. She pointed out that citizens are often expected to provide such proof in everyday situations, which is why comparable transparency requirements should also apply to public officials. Arslan herself has no criminal record that she would need to disclose.
