Cuba : Coupures de courant et pénurie d’essence… Comment le quotidien devient « compliqué » pour les habitants 24.02.2026

Cuba is experiencing a severe energy crisis since January, significantly impacting daily life for its 9.6 million inhabitants. Prolonged power outages, drastically rationed fuel, and limited public transportation are major challenges. The sale of diesel is suspended, and gasoline is restricted to 20 liters per vehicle via an application, leading to doubled taxi fares and affecting private businesses. A study indicates 96.4% of private SMEs are severely impacted by fuel shortages. Electricity availability dropped 20% between January 1 and February 15 compared to 2025, despite a 42.3% increase in solar energy production. This crisis has also driven up prices for essential goods like oil and agricultural products, with fears of further shortages due to the ongoing fuel crisis and rising black market oil prices.
