Cyprus records highest ever temperatures in July 2025 07.05.2026

Cyprus experienced its highest recorded temperature of 46.1C in Lefkara on July 27, 2025, and Athalassa registered 44.7C on July 24, 2025, marking the highest July temperature since 1983, according to the Cyprus meteorological department. These extreme heat conditions contributed to the island battling its worst-ever forest fire during a challenging fire season across southeastern Europe. These findings are part of the European State of the Climate 2025 report by the Copernicus Climate Change Service and the World Meteorological Organisation, which highlights the intensifying reality of climate change in Europe, particularly the eastern Mediterranean, and warns that the 1.5C global warming limit could be reached by the end of this decade. Europe is warming twice as fast as the global average, leading to more frequent and severe heatwaves, record wildfire activity, and unprecedented sea surface temperatures.
