Cyprus tourism at ‘critical juncture’ — signs point to May also being ‘lost’ 09.04.2026

The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (Keve) tourism committee has issued a stark warning that the island's tourism sector is at a critical juncture, facing irreversible losses due to geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Despite a temporary ceasefire, ongoing uncertainty continues to impact market confidence and tourist flows, with May now anticipated to be a "lost month." The committee highlighted that the decline in tourism activity has a cascading effect across the entire ecosystem, affecting travel agents, airlines, hotels, restaurants, and numerous supporting industries, leading to reduced occupancy, rising costs, and shrinking turnover. They are urging immediate state intervention, including targeted financial support, promotional efforts to safeguard air connectivity, and a unified communication strategy to project an image of safety and normality, emphasizing the need for the government to leverage its political role and organize major international events to bolster confidence.
