Czechia to redirect funds to Ukraine weapons program, Macinka announces 07.07.2026

Foreign Minister Petr Macinka announced that the Czech Republic will redirect funds from certain projects to the Priority Requirements List (PURL) program. This initiative allows allied nations to pay for American military equipment, which is subsequently provided to the invaded state. This step is viewed by President Petr Pavel as a positive signal, as Czechia had not previously engaged in the process. The change in stance comes at a time when Ankara is also considering a proposal to provide 70 billion euros to Ukraine this year and similar amounts next year. While the ANO and SPD governments have so far refused direct budget financing, the use of funds from mandatory commitments toward the PURL program is now being planned. Czechia is already facilitating the delivery of large-caliber ammunition, which is part of broader support within the NATO alliance.
