France will begin reimbursing patients for the anti-obesity drugs Wegovy and Mounjaro starting June 15, making it the first EU country to do so. This initiative, recommended by the French National Authority for Health, addresses the 17.4% adult obesity rate in France in 2025. The national health insurance will cover 65% of the costs, with potential for 100% reimbursement depending on individual circumstances. Fixed prices have been set, with Wegovy costing €146.91 to €195.10 monthly and Mounjaro priced between €6 to €14 daily. Eligibility is restricted to specific patient groups, including those qualifying for bariatric surgery, with a BMI of 40+, or aged 35+ with comorbidities, requiring prior nutritional management failure and combined lifestyle changes, and prescriptions limited to specialized medical professionals.
