6200 von 14.000 Arbeitsplätzen : Neuer Chef von DB Cargo baut fast die Hälfte der Stellen ab 19.02.2026

DB Cargo's new CEO, Bernhard Osburg, plans to eliminate 6,200 of approximately 14,000 full-time positions in Germany as part of a drastic restructuring aimed at achieving profitability by the end of this year, a requirement to avoid the company's closure due to EU state aid regulations. The job cuts will affect nearly all departments, including operations, dispatch, planning, administration, sales, and IT. This initiative is a core component of a four-pillar strategy that also involves shifting focus to European markets due to declining demand from key German sectors like automotive, chemical, and steel. The plan includes significant cost savings, a reorientation of single-wagon transport, and a concentration of train formation activities at four main locations, with the expectation that federal subsidies will still be necessary for this segment.
