Debatte um Heizungsgesetz: Umweltminister Carsten Schneider sendet deutliches Signal 23.02.2026

Germany's federal government is set to revise the Building Energy Act (GEG), commonly referred to as the "Heizungsgesetz," with initial results expected this week. The previous reform, driven by former Economy Minister Robert Habeck, mandated that new heating systems in new build areas utilize 65 percent renewable energy starting in 2024, a move that generated significant public debate and misinformation. The current coalition, comprising CDU/CSU and SPD, aims to bring clarity and reliability to homeowners and tradespeople, who have faced uncertainty leading to a backlog in building renovations. Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider (SPD) emphasized the need for stable framework conditions to encourage investment and stated that future funding, particularly for lower and middle incomes, will be crucial.
