Defence minister welcomes new conscripts, assures families 07.07.2026

On Tuesday, Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas visited the Christos Samaras military camp in Athalassa to oversee the commencement of the 2026 enlistment process for the Cyprus National Guard. During his visit, Palmas addressed the new recruits and their families, emphasizing that the dignity and respect of every individual are non-negotiable throughout their 14-month service. He described the upcoming training as a methodical and intensive program designed to adapt to modern challenges and changing circumstances. Palmas highlighted the privilege of serving the "half-occupied homeland" and urged the new conscripts to approach their duties with responsibility and pride. After being briefed on the enlistment measures, the Minister praised the professionalism of the personnel involved and characterized the military service as a supreme duty to the country, ensuring families that the training environment remains respectful.
