Demand freedom for Luis Perozo after new arrest: he had been released in December 05.05.2026

The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners (Cippve) denounced the new arbitrary detention of Luis Perozo, a young former political prisoner who had been released in December 2025 after spending 16 months in the Tocorón prison, Aragua state. The events occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, around 10 a.m., when Perozo was returning to his home in Mariara, Carabobo state, after buying drinking water. According to the testimony of his mother, Yuraima Piñero, police officials intercepted him without presenting an arrest warrant, physically assaulted him, hooded him, and took him away. The mother has fruitlessly searched for his whereabouts in several detention centers. The Cippve and leader Juan Pablo Guanipa demanded his immediate release and accountability from the Venezuelan State for his integrity, highlighting that Perozo suffers from a cognitive disability that makes him especially vulnerable.
