Mette Frederiksen has secured a third term as Prime Minister of Denmark following lengthy coalition negotiations after the March 24 legislative elections. The process, which lasted a record 69 days, concluded on Tuesday, June 2, with an agreement among four center-left parties. Despite her Social Democratic party securing a historically low 21.09% of the vote in a fragmented political landscape with 12 parties in Parliament, Frederiksen's bloc finished ahead of the conservative liberal right and the far right. A key factor in solidifying her position was securing the support of Lars Lokke Rasmussen, former prime minister and leader of the centrist Moderates party, who played a crucial "kingmaker" role.
