Des crues « vont se poursuivre tout le week-end, voire au-delà », avertit Vigicrues 20.02.2026

Exceptional floods continue to disrupt western France, with Vigicrues warning that the rising waters will persist throughout the weekend and potentially beyond, despite a temporary lull in rainfall. Three departments remain on red alert as inundated homes, evacuated residents, and interrupted transport highlight the severity of the situation. Lucie Chadourne-Facon, director of Vigicrues, explained that the slow recession of floodwaters is expected due to the high river levels and saturated soil conditions. The most critical areas are Angers and the downstream Loire River, as well as the Charente River in Charente Maritime, where water levels are still rising before reaching a prolonged plateau. Météo-France anticipates a brief respite from rain until mid-next week, though future forecasts remain uncertain. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has pledged swift compensation for victims.
