The Belgian justice system has initiated an inquiry following the discovery of child pornography images in the cell of Marc Dutroux, a 69-year-old notorious Belgian criminal serving a life sentence. The prosecutor of Walloon Brabant confirmed the investigation on Monday evening, corroborating a report by the Flemish weekly Humo. Approximately 200 pornographic photos were found during a general search of Nivelles prison in 2024, with about half depicting naked children. Dutroux, incarcerated since 1996 for the rape and murder of young girls, claims other inmates planted the images to harass him. His lawyer, Bruno Dayez, declined comment. A 2020 psychiatric report deemed Dutroux a psychopath with a high risk of recidivism.
