In Vire Normandie (Calvados), approximately twenty CE2-CM1 students at the Pierre-Mendès-France school are participating in the "Orchestre à l’école" program, a free initiative offered in four local elementary schools. Over a two-year period, these students learn to play musical instruments through collective practice. Six months into the program, after an initial concert, their musical progress is already evident, with noticeable improvements in their playing and a developing ensemble sound. The program involves weekly two-and-a-half-hour sessions led by Conservatory professors, focusing on rhythm exercises and instrument-specific practice, aiming to enhance attention and group cohesion.
