Des tracteurs autonomes dans l’Eure : « On n’est plus dans la science-fiction » 20.02.2026

In Venon, Eure, the company Latitudes GPS, led by Emmanuel Vauquelin, has developed the "Rétrofit" kit, a technological innovation designed to make tractors autonomous. Presented on February 17, 2026, this kit can be installed on most tractors in France, addressing growing agricultural challenges such as labor shortages and shrinking weather windows by enabling night-time operation. Orange provides a hybrid connectivity solution with modems ensuring uninterrupted network access, crucial for the kit's flawless radar precision. The system incorporates five cameras and sensors for safety, with automatic stops upon obstacle detection and multiple emergency shutdown options. Farmers can monitor and control the tractor remotely via a mobile app, which also provides real-time data on tractor and attached tool performance, promising financial gains through optimized land use and time savings. Despite an initial cost of approximately 80,000 euros, the kit is projected to pay for itself within three to four years. The company anticipates commercialization once clear legislation is established, with widespread adoption expected by 2030.
