A new day of disagreement marked the relationship between the government and Chilean mayors. In a meeting at La Moneda that lasted over two hours, Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz presented two proposals to compensate for the loss of municipal revenue resulting from the property tax exemption for those over 65, but failed to convince the local representatives. The first proposal linked the closing of the corporate tax filing process (operación renta) to the payment of commercial licenses, while the second tied the vehicle circulation permit to the payment of sanitation fees. However, the mayors criticized the lack of concrete data and calculations demonstrating how these measures would offset the nearly 70 million dollars that municipalities will stop receiving.
