The French League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) wildlife rescue center in Audenge, Gironde, reported record arrivals in late June 2026, with over 150 swifts, swallows, and bats needing care. Volunteers like Juliette Lacour and Elliot Edery are dedicating hours to feeding the young birds, many only two to three weeks old. These numbers are significantly higher than the usual fifty arrivals per year during this period, indicating a severe impact on the local fauna from the extreme temperatures.
