France's wildlife is facing a crisis due to an unprecedented heatwave, leading to an overwhelming influx of distressed animals at rescue centers. The French League for the Protection of Birds (LPO) wildlife rescue center in Audenge, Gironde, reported record arrivals in late June 2026, with over 150 swifts, swallows, and bats needing care.
