Diddy lawyer argues for appeal of sex-crimes conviction, prison release 09.04.2026

Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team is petitioning the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn his conviction on prostitution charges and his four-year, two-month prison sentence. Defense lawyer Alexandra Shapiro argued on April 9 that U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian improperly considered evidence of Combs' alleged abuse and threats towards former girlfriends, Casandra Ventura and "Jane," during sentencing, particularly conduct related to charges for which he was acquitted. Shapiro contends that judges should not consider acquitted conduct when determining a sentence, emphasizing the importance of respecting jury verdicts. The prosecution, however, argues that the judge was correct to consider this evidence as relevant to the prostitution counts. Combs, who has acknowledged domestic violence but disputes its connection to the consensual sexual performances, has been incarcerated since September 16, 2024.
