Frankfurt's "Restkoalition" of Greens, SPD, and Volt is negotiating to secure the necessary four votes to pass the city's €6 billion budget by the March 5th deadline. Lead negotiator Dimitrios Bakakis (Greens) is engaging with the CDU and Linke, while "Die Partei" has offered their votes in exchange for two new positions at the Caricatura-Museum and a crate of beer, an offer Bakakis now considers "Plan C." The 2026 budget, presented by City Treasurer Bastian Bergerhoff (Greens), projects €5.94 billion in expenditures and €5.88 billion in income. The CDU advocates for austerity, whereas the Linke proposes increased spending, such as a €300 monthly supplement for city employees, complicating the broad consensus needed for the financial plan.
