DIRCO has officially cleared High Commissioner Anil Sooklal after an internal investigation into his involvement with former President Jacob Zuma's private visit to India from June 25 to 27, 2026. The controversy arose after photographs showed Sooklal at an event where businessman Anil Gupta, who is linked to the Gupta family, was also present. DIRCO stated that it was informed of Zuma's visit on June 19 and provided standard protocol and logistical support, including airport courtesies and liaison with Indian authorities, as is customary for former presidents.
