Director of company behind 2021 Tuas worksite explosion that killed 3 given 18 months' jail 25.06.2026

On June 25, 2026, the director of Stars Engrg, Chua Xing Da, was sentenced to 18 months and one week in jail for his role in the fatal explosion and fire at the company's Tuas worksite on February 24, 2021. The blast killed workers Shohel Md, Anisuzzaman Md, and Subbaiyan Marimuthu, and injured seven others. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) also fined the company S$500,000 under the Workplace Safety and Health Act. Production manager Lwin Moe Tun received a six-week jail term for obstructing investigations by deleting messages exchanged with one of the deceased workers regarding a faulty heater, acting on Chua's instructions.
