Discover the first coins featuring Grand Duke Guillaume 07.07.2026

On Tuesday, July 7, Grand Duke Guillaume visited the Monnaie de Paris in Pessac to attend the inaugural minting of Luxembourg's new euro coins. This symbolic ceremony marks the sovereign's accession to the throne and renews the national faces of the coins for the first time since 2002. The eight denominations, ranging from 1 cent to 2 euros, bear the 2026 vintage and feature the portrait of the Grand Duke accompanied by the crowned lion and the national flag. Accompanied by Gilles Roth and Gaston Reinesch, the sovereign observed the manufacturing process, from engraving to minting. The Banque centrale du Luxembourg will begin the gradual circulation of these new coins starting July 13, while the old coins featuring Grand Duke Henri will remain legal tender.
