'Disgusting' beach litter leaves people upset 31.05.2026

Following a bank holiday weekend with temperatures exceeding 30C, the beach at Cromer in Norfolk was left with a significant amount of litter, prompting outrage from residents and local officials. Extra clean-up efforts took up to 26 hours to address the mess, which included broken bottles and foil packaging. Liberal Democrat councillor Jill Boyle expressed disbelief and disgust, questioning why visitors would damage the natural beauty they came to enjoy. Despite the council placing additional bins, the volume of visitors was unprecedented, leading to overflowing receptacles and litter scattered across the sand. Residents like Julia James described the scene as "disgusting" and "disrespectful," likening it to the aftermath of a rave. Similar issues were reported at other Norfolk beaches, such as Wells-next-the-Sea, with calls for increased responsibility and potential enforcement of fines.
