DIT student, relative jailed for life over 15kg heroin trafficking, mother acquitted 02.06.2026

The High Court of Tanzania has sentenced Suleiman Ngulangwa and Farid Said, a Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) student, to life imprisonment for trafficking 15.19 kilogrammes of heroin. The court, presided over by Justice Sedekia Kisanya, acquitted Ms Sharifa Bakari, the mother of Said and aunt of Ngulangwa, due to insufficient evidence linking her to the narcotics. The conviction stems from an arrest on November 27, 2022, following intelligence about Ngulangwa. A subsequent search on November 29, 2022, near Charambe Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, led to the discovery of the heroin. Justice Kisanya noted that while Ngulangwa and Said were sufficiently connected to the heroin, no evidence linked Bakari to the operation. The court also ordered the return of Sh873,000 seized from Said and Bakari, as it was not proven to be proceeds of crime.
