Dobrindt will Arbeitsverbot für Asylbewerber aufheben 22.02.2026

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) plans to expedite access to the labor market for asylum seekers, proposing an "immediate work plan" to allow them to work after three months in Germany, regardless of their asylum procedure status. Dobrindt emphasized that work is the best form of integration, aiming for "participation through activity." This change would not affect asylum decisions, and rejected asylum seekers or those not cooperating with the process would be excluded. While asylum seekers could keep their earnings, income would be offset against social benefits. Current regulations already permit employment under certain conditions after three months, but a six-month residency obligation in initial reception centers often prevents work during that period. The timeline for implementing Dobrindt's proposed changes remains unclear.
