Felix Freiherr zu Knyphausen, the 49-year-old owner of Bodelschwingh Castle in Dortmund, has died after being buried by an avalanche in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. He was skiing off-piste with his 15-year-old son near Parsonz when the avalanche struck. While his son was rescued alive, the Baron could not be saved. Dortmund's mayor, Alexander Kalouti, expressed deep sorrow and praised Knyphausen as a beloved, socially engaged, and intelligent individual. This incident occurs amidst high avalanche danger across European ski resorts due to heavy snowfall, with other fatal avalanches reported recently in Austria and Northern Italy involving German skiers.
