A search and rescue operation by the Mondim de Basto Volunteer Firefighters, which began on the afternoon of Friday, July 3, 2026, located and rescued three children and one adult who had gone missing near the PR2 - Fisgas de Ermelo hiking trail. The alert was received at 17:40 by the Ave Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command. Ten operational personnel and three vehicles were mobilized, along with two GNR officers. A drone from the Unmanned Aircraft Unit (UANT) was crucial for the rapid location of the victims, given the complex orography of the area. The four individuals were found approximately 50 minutes after the start of the operation, around 18:30, and, after being accompanied by rescue teams, were brought to safety. They were in good health and did not require hospitalization.
