The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Philippines is proposing mandatory certification for solar power system products to ensure compliance with Philippine National Standards. Trade Secretary Maria Cristina Roque stated on Wednesday that this measure aims to protect consumers from low-quality and potentially unsafe products, preventing the Philippines from becoming a dumping ground for substandard goods. This initiative is driven by the increasing adoption of solar energy by Filipino families and businesses seeking cost savings and energy stability. The proposed regulation will recognize test reports from accredited laboratories but will not cover the installation or mounting of systems. The DTI is seeking public feedback on this proposal until July 25, 2026.
