Eastern Cape school principal and three others await DPP decision in murder case 03.06.2026

A principal from Pefferville Primary School, George Jude Plaatjies, along with three co-accused, faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and defeating the ends of justice in the killing of businessperson Zovuyo Mbana. Mbana was allegedly strangled, suffocated, and her body was burnt before being dumped in a forest along the N6 in March. The case was postponed for another month in the KuGompo City magistrate’s court as prosecutors await a decision from the director of public prosecutions (DPP). Plaatjies, who was denied bail, is accused of orchestrating and financing the murder. Mbana’s family and gender-based violence activists are pushing for a speedy trial and justice. The accused are scheduled to appear in court again on July 30.
