EBRD has appointed a new head of its office in Armenia 08.06.2026

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Remon Zakaria, an Italian national, as the new head of its Yerevan Resident Office, effective September 1, 2026. Zakaria will succeed George Akhalkatsi and will oversee the EBRD’s investments and operations in Armenia, reporting to Tomas Kairys, Regional Director for the Caucasus. Zakaria brings extensive experience in infrastructure, energy, and private-sector finance, having previously worked in various senior roles across multiple regions and led the EBRD’s office in Montenegro. The EBRD has been active in Armenia since 1992, investing €3 billion in 245 projects, and Zakaria expressed his commitment to supporting private sector growth, capital markets, and the green transition in the country.
