Economic confrontation biggest global threat in 2026, WEF report says 14.01.2026

The World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Risks Report 2026 identifies geoeconomic confrontation, encompassing sanctions and tariffs, as the paramount global threat, surpassing misinformation, societal polarization, extreme weather, and armed conflict. This finding, based on the views of over 1,300 leaders and experts, precedes the WEF's annual meeting in Davos, where managing these risks will be a key agenda item. The report indicates a significant increase in perceived global turbulence, with half of respondents anticipating a stormy world over the next two years, a stark rise from 36% in the previous year. Geoeconomic confrontation is seen as a primary trigger for global crises, threatening supply chains and economic stability, with a notable climb in its severity ranking.
