Editorial - Do Not Evict the People: The Thap Lan National Park Boundary Issue 07.07.2026

Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on the Amnesty Bill for Citizens, and Mr. Rangsiman Rome, Chairman of the Law Committee, visited Wang Nam Khiao District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, to listen to opinions regarding the overlapping land issue in Thap Lan National Park, a dispute that has lasted for several decades. The overlapping area, approximately 260,000 rai, affects the residences and livelihoods of people who lived there prior to the national park's declaration in 1981 and its World Heritage listing in 2005. Currently, the government, through Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, is proceeding with boundary adjustments following the Cabinet resolution on March 14, 2023, to conduct preliminary rights verification for over 5,000 citizens. The goal is to resolve legal issues alongside conservation efforts to prevent over 30,000 people from losing their livelihoods and being displaced from the area.
