Editorial du « Monde » : Jean-Luc Mélenchon et le nécessaire moment de clarification 19.02.2026

Following the death of far-right militant Quentin Deranque in Lyon, the arrest of eleven individuals, including three close associates of LFI deputy Raphaël Arnault, has highlighted La France insoumise's (LFI) ambiguous relationship with the antifascist group Jeune Garde. Arnault, founder of the now-dissolved Jeune Garde, has had collaborators arrested, and LFI's past support for the group, including describing its members as "young comrades" and opposing its dissolution, is now under scrutiny. Despite the proven links and the gravity of the events, LFI leaders, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon, have largely responded with denials and diversions, failing to publicly condemn the violence or clarify their stance. The article argues that LFI can no longer dismiss the Jeune Garde's actions as mere self-defense, asserting a real political responsibility that necessitates a clear break with violent elements within their movement.
