Ehemaliges Steinkohlekraftwerk Schornstein des Kraftwerks in Ibbenbüren gesprengt 22.02.2026

The 275-meter-tall chimney of the former coal-fired power plant in Ibbenbüren was successfully demolished on February 22, 2026, through a controlled explosion. Despite low-hanging clouds and drizzle, the 21 demolition experts from Hagedorn, supported by 150 personnel from their company and 100 from emergency services, executed the plan, bringing down three buildings and the chimney in a controlled collapse. Only the stairwell tower remained standing. The site will be handed over to grid operator Amprion in the summer, where a converter station is planned to transform wind power from the North Sea for distribution in North Rhine-Westphalia, potentially supplying one to two million people and becoming the first location for direct offshore power feed into the NRW grid by 2031.
