EHRC Says Ethiopia’s 7th General Election Conducted Peacefully and in Line with International Standards 02.06.2026

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has officially commended Ethiopia's 7th General Election, deeming it peaceful, democratic, and compliant with international standards. Chief Commissioner Berhanu Adelo announced at a press briefing on June 2, 2026, that the EHRC had deployed observers nationwide to monitor the process. The commission's findings corroborated that the election met international benchmarks and was conducted democratically, with election materials distributed effectively and on schedule. While acknowledging reports of long queues at some polling stations, Adelo stated the EHRC addressed this with the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), which implemented corrective actions. The EHRC plans to continue its post-election monitoring and will release further findings.
