Electricity price hiked, consumers to pay Tk 1.52 more per kilowatt-hour 03.06.2026

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a significant increase in electricity tariffs, with the weighted average retail price rising by Tk 1.52 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), from Tk 9.11 to Tk 10.63. This decision, effective from the June billing cycle, also sees the weighted average wholesale tariff increase by Tk 1.39 per kWh to Tk 8.39, and the transmission charge (wheeling charge) rise by Tk 0.0751 per kWh to Tk 0.3886. The BERC based its decision on proposals from power entities and public hearings, considering generation, procurement, import, transmission, distribution costs, and government subsidies. Despite the hikes, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will still need an estimated Tk 41,000 crore in annual subsidies.
