The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) has recommended a new weekly insulin treatment for type 2 diabetes, known as Onswik (insulin efsitora alfa) and manufactured by Eli Lilly, in final draft guidance issued on Thursday. If approved by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), this treatment could slash the number of annual insulin injections from 365 to 52, an 86% reduction. Health officials are awaiting the MHRA's ruling to determine if the treatment can be rolled out on the NHS.
